Purpose
This SOP describes how to safely identify and remove a backup device (agent/machine) and its associated backup storage from the Acronis / LeapSwitch management console when it is no longer needed — for example, a duplicate, test, or decommissioned machine.
Before You Begin
-
Confirm with the device owner / team that the machine and its backups are genuinely no longer required. Deletion of backup storage is permanent and cannot be undone.
-
Note down the device name and IP address so you delete the correct machine (see Step 2).
-
Deleting the backup storage does not automatically delete the device entry, and vice versa — both must be removed separately (Steps 3–4).
Step 1: Log in to Acronis
Open the LeapSwitch Acronis management console and log in with your admin credentials. You will land on the Overview / Monitoring dashboard.

Step 2: Identify and Verify the Device to be Removed
Go to Devices → All devices. Locate the device you intend to remove and verify it is the correct one before proceeding.

To verify the correct machine, select it and open the Details panel (right-hand info icon) to check its IP address, last connection time, and account/unit it belongs to. Cross-check this IP/hostname with the request before deleting anything.

Note: Double-check the IP address and device name here against what you were asked to remove. This is the key verification step to avoid deleting the wrong machine.
Step 3: Locate and Delete the Unwanted Backup Storage
Go to Backup Storage → Backups. Select the storage location (e.g. the cloud storage tied to the account). The backups inside are listed by the hostname of the source device — locate the entry matching the device you verified in Step 2.

Select the checkbox next to the unwanted backup entry, then click Delete in the Actions panel on the right, and confirm the deletion.

Note: Deleting a backup here permanently removes all recovery points/data stored in that location. This step cannot be undone.
Step 4: Select and Delete the Unwanted Device
Return to Devices → All devices. Select the checkbox next to the same device verified in Step 2, then click Delete in the Actions panel on the right, and confirm the deletion.
